the fully stitched stole

As we see-saw between the brightness of beautiful stitching and the dark Apocalypse, this week we get beauty:

Because this piece has to be wearable, it cannot have the heavy backing and more extreme sewing used on other pieces. The finer sewing took more time, but doesn’t photograph well. I draped the stole over a mannequin, pushed the mannequin out into the sunlight, and photographed it in bright, shadowed light. This is NOT allowed for show submissions, but it does display the textured stitching, at least a little better.

The back:

The family faces have been blurred for privacy. The red thread webbing over a button is meant to evoke a Chinese Lantern seed.

My family home had many sycamore trees, and I loved playing with the fuzzy seed pods.

Seeds hiding in a dark nook, another sprouting…

A milkweed pod, with seeds flying out. This one also has the best image of the flames on the leaves of the burning bush:

The stole is finished, photographed, blogged and shipped. Now back to my Opus stitching and Apocalypse planning. I hope you are secure with your family, or happily secluded.

This too shall pass.

One more thing: until now, a lot of my embroidery floss came from garage sales, or the ReCreate shop (15 cents each!!) and sales. Finally, with this project, I bought the entire line of DMC colors - all 495. I HAVE ALL THE COLORS IN THE WORLD!!!!! …. which I am rolling up on cards and sorting into boxes.
