progress on the opus

If this was a movie,  all the missing/ contradictory/ confusing bits would be edited out. But it’s a blog, with increasingly up-to-the-minute real life complications.   Last week, I wrote that I was not going to be researching other projects while I sewed this opus. Well, wrong again! I have just accepted a commission, which will necessitate my doing research - and stitching - while the opus is still in progress. Since the opus is such a long term project, interruptions really can’t be avoided, and this one will be great fun. So…..here’s the stitched progress that I’ve made, and I’ll have more information on the commission next week.

I moved the cloth over on the frame so I could work on another section. These pictures show how Vermeer’s milkmaid is coming along.

Depending on the lighting, I either love or hate her face.

I’m happy with her clothing…..

…and I’ve figured out how to focus the somewhat vague border shapes, seeing the forms in the blurs.

Not sure about the white highlights on the jug.

Christ’s face is finished and looks pretty good.

I’ve also printed out a few more of the figures from the edge. The opus is too large to carry around, and I can stash several of these in my bag to work on while I’m out - like this one (Above) that I’m sewing in the car.

That’s all for this week. Fingers crossed, I’ll have some researched images to show you for the new commission next week. As always, contact me at dianesavona@aol.com
