Closet Archaeology, part 7

In the days when people mended clothing, they saved buttons. These cases and mason jars hold many many buttons, suggesting a vast domestic history.A photo from the collection, of a boy and his  bright gold buttons, was featured in a case of many old gathered buttons.

right: A small vest from the collection, with bone buttons that seem to be wandering off to join the numbers in the case. The cabinet has drawers full of notions for visitors to find. left: The case has buckles from the collection safely under plexiglass, while buckles from garage sales are openly displayed on the lid.

On the wall are my Domestic Markings, which you've seen in an earlier post. My Preserves have also been discussed earlier, but here's the whole display:
